"Oliver Twist"

If you'd told me back when Sung Tongs blew up that one day I'd have just cause to compare something Animal Collective-related to Korn's "Freak on a Leash," I'd have laughed right in your face. But yeah: In its own electronically puerile way, "Twist" is equally schizophrenic and goose-flesh inducing, deep and difficult in a way that Panda Bear's solo stuff just isn't.

"Cavern Hymn"

This California-based, axes-only duo specialize in casting luminous, foreboding shadows that flicker long after they've faded, lingering in the margins of memory. "Hymn" binds focus and distraction, conflates long-windedness and brevity, suggests moonrises and unmooring.

"This is No Fun Acid 3-2"

Hey, does this make you imagine crack-dosed cartoon squirrels running riot in discos, too?

"Nothing But A Fucking Grudge"

The sobriquet says it all, and this song translates its titular pique into tornadic, oppressive noise: a fury that won't be denied, animus granted boundless expression.

"Freaky Songz"

Isn't urban pop ready for a steady volley of response songs—challenging testosterone baths like this one—where divas and femcees even out the gender-objectification playing field, where they pointedly put the boys in their place?
