Ballet of the Dolls: Whatever Happened to…Swan Lake?

Myron Johnson's wanton and witty Whatever Happened to...Swan Lake? might be the perfect prequel for Darren Aronofsky's upcoming ballet noir thriller, Black Swan. Johnson takes his cue from another film, the 1962 gothic camp fest Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, in which aging grand dames Bette Davis and Joan Crawford detonate and decay before our eyes. Johnson's two jealous dance divas, Jane and Blanche, wend their way through a series of intriguing and glamorous adventures, including a few cat fights. Most deliciously, Ballet of the Dolls dancers shed their uniquely brazen and capricious light on the Russian classic Swan Lake. (Photo by MikeGrogan)
