According to the National Confectioners Association, Americans eat about 12 pounds of chocolate per person annually. So for those of you who fantasize about chocolate whenever you're not eating it, the Minnesota Historical Society is hosting a show that will further ignite your lust for the rich sweet. "Chocolate," an exhibit originated by the Field Museum in Chicago, explores the 2,000-year-old history of what has become a familiar sweet treat. Find out about the cacao bean's origins in the rainforests of Central and South America, the influential role it played in Mayan and Aztec history, and how it eventually made it way to Europe, as well as methods for growing and processing it today. To demonstrate the evolution of chocolate culture, the exhibit will display pre-Columbian ceramics, European silver and porcelain chocolate services, cocoa tins, candy molds, agricultural tools, and advertisements. The ongoing interactive event will host a special family day from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 2.
