How Can You Stay in the House All Day and Not Go Anywhere?

Ralph Lemon is a native son who for the past decade or so has been producing multimedia works exploring his roots as an African American artist. The first of a four-part multimedia theater/dance/installation, his newest work centers on Walter Carter, a 102-year-old former sharecropper from the Mississippi Delta. The piece features a remarkable ensemble of African American and African performers, and short films featuring Carter. Lemon’s ability to juxtapose dance and documentary in ways that are simultaneously poetic, philosophical, and down home gives his highly sophisticated postmodernism an underlying grit. The performances conclude with an event entitled Meditation, a light and film installation that transforms the theater into a gallery.
Thursdays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Sept. 23. Continues through Sept. 25, 2010
