For the past couple weeks Intermedia Arts has hosted a slew of really great B-Girl events, including a writing workshop with local spoken-word artist Desdamona; "Sideshow" gallery show highlighting hip-hop art; and Innaviews, an acclaimed hip-hop history production. The celebration continues this week with the happenings that B-Girl Be is perhaps best-known for: dance and live art. Performances kick off this Thursday with Flava Tamers, an evening loaded with local, emerging hip-hop dancers (they also perform Sunday). On Friday and Saturday guests can check out Beat Contortionists, featuring some of the best established performers on the Twin Cities scene. Stay later that evening for powerful spoken-word performances at the Sugar Shack. Saturday is easily the biggest event of the celebration. At the daylong block party, attendees will be able to watch dance and music performances in a variety of styles, shop at the artist mart, and watch the building's mural repainting live. Are you looking for a more hands-on B-Girl experience? Check the online schedule on Intermedia Arts' website. Many participating performers are also hosting workshops on break dancing, acrobatic dance moves, popping, and other dance styles for only $20 each.
