There is something undeniably fun about turning a city into a giant game board. This works for televisions shows like the smash Amazing Race, and for videogames like the Grand Theft Auto (for adults) and the Carmen San Diego (for kids) series. You can experience the fun in real life at the Great MN Race this Saturday. And while there have been other city-wide race games this summer, this one is easily the most epic, spanning Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as a handful of suburbs. Skip the morning cartoons and show up at Como Park, where your team will receive a passport booklet loaded with challenges. Traveling only by foot or public transportation, participants will then need to complete tasks in a speedy manner (cell phones and GPS systems are allowed, and you will also be given a Metro Transit day pass). Activities at check-in points include physical challenges, interacting with strangers on the street, historical trivia questions, and photographing certain things in the city. Sound like fun? Visit www.greatmnrace.com for more info and to register (you must sign up by 11:59 p.m. Friday night). A portion of the proceeds from the event benefits Urban Ventures.
