Nature

Tyson Forbes notably walked the boards as Thomas Jefferson in the Guthrie's 2007 production of 1776; to cement his connection to American history, he also happens to be a direct descendent of transcendentalist intellectual Ralph Waldo Emerson. Nature is an original work by Forbes, a "walking play" that moves its audience through the natural splendor of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum while depicting the friendship between Emerson (Forbes) and Henry David Thoreau (Sam Elmore). The show purports to be a playful one, and features music on bagpipes, flutes, recorders, voice, and violin. Emerson and Thoreau were fixated on the relationship between humanity and nature, often with a good deal more wit and humor than we might remember from high school English. Combine their spiritual seeking with a good story and a lovely day, and we may be on to something. For more info, visit www.tigerlion.org/nature.
