Triumph of Love

One of the more outright fun theatrical experiences of summer is walking the plank and boarding the Minnesota Centennial Showboat for the U of M's annual show. The theater itself is a floating improbability, intimate yet full of detail, entirely comfortable and perfectly suited for frothy offerings. This year's show is "Triumph of Love," the story of a young princess and a scholar, the quest to return a rightful crown, and all manner of crisscrossed young love. The director is Theater Latté Da's Peter Rothstein, and the musical director is Rothstein's longtime accomplice Denise Prosek, so expect the Vaudevillian between-act song-and-dance numbers to perhaps evince even more sharpness than usual (and they always have quite a bit). This is pure all-ages entertainment, just right if that's what floats your boat. (Photo by Cody Baldwin)
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, 2:30 p.m. Starts: June 18. Continues through Aug. 28, 2010
