The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts has teamed up with several partners to transform downtown St. Paul into a summertime haven for dance. On Thursday evenings dance instructors from Arthur Murray Dance Studio and Cinema Ballroom will offer lessons in a variety of forms, including ballroom, salsa, country, and African, accompanied by live music featuring the likes of the Senders, Mandragora Tango, the New Primitives, Boogie Wonderland, and many more. Local restaurants Pazzaluna, Meritage, and the Saint Paul Hotel will have food and beverages available for purchase. Head back downtown on Friday nights for dance-themed movies including Top Hat, That's the Way I Like It (Bruce Lee does Saturday Night Fever), Urban Cowboy, Footloose, and others. Free. Dance and music is at 5:30 p.m. at Landmark Plaza (adjacent to Rice Park at West Fifth Street and Market Street). Movies are at 9:30 p.m. Fridays at St. Paul Public Library's Kellogg Boulevard Courtyard (90 W. Fourth St., St. Paul). For more info call the Ordway at 651.224.4222 or visit www.ordway.org for a complete schedule.
