Sticky Sweet

For "Sticky Sweet," Rudy Fig has created a Candyland world that would appeal any little girl going through her frilly pink phase. However, due to the details in each piece, it is probably best that they wait until they're a little older to check out her artwork. In one oil painting, Fig imagines two dew-eyed ladies, both covered in shiny pearls, blossoming flowers, and peppermint candy. A heart-covered snail wanders along a leaf, sweetly offering them a scoop of ice cream with cherries on top. Oh yeah, and the women are both topless. One has buttons for nipples, while the other wears a short corset exposing her chest save for a bow over her heart. The sky is purple and there's an alien spacecraft flying in the background. The pastels and small details draw your eye throughout each piece, which Fig sometime spends months—even years—working on. Artist Jeff Warner creates paintings intended to lift the spirit. His work can cause flashbacks to youth, a time when sugary cereal and Saturday morning cartoons made you feel like you could conquer the world (or at least your backyard). The opening reception is from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, August 13. (Rudy Fig, Gloria’s Lobotomy)
