Four Nights in Loring

The third in a series of four free outdoor events will take place tonight with R&B/pop powerhouse Mayda, a fierce and talented young artist who commands audiences with her punchy, funky hooks and larger-than-life stage presence. Mayda was awarded the title of "Best R&B Artist" in this year's Best of the Twin Cities issue of City Pages, and for good reason; her syncopated rhythms, whimpers, and wails compound to create a "Minneapolis sound" for a new generation of fans. As with all of the "4 Nights in Loring: Local Bands, Local Films" events this August, tonight's festivities in Loring Park will also feature a movie with Minnesota ties; following Mayda's performance will be a screening of the Diablo Cody-penned, Oscar-winning film Juno. And once your heart is fully warmed by the film, head over to Nick and Eddie for a free afterparty with Pink Mink, a new collaboration between Arzu Gokcen (of Selby Tigers and Strut & Shock) and Christy Hunt (of the Von Bondies and Ouija Radio).
