What captures the spirit of summer in Minneapolis better than a good bike ride around town? Why, a good two-wheeled trek with beer at the end, of course! When the Urban Assault Ride makes its Twin Cities stop on its seven-city Tour de America, the blending of beer and bikes will be in full effect. Teams of two will race around to various checkpoints, where they'll need to complete physical and mental tasks in order to pass through. But we're not talking military-grade, boot-camp stuff. We're talking much more hilarious and entertaining challenges—think adults on Big Wheels and a BMX bike limbo contest. To the victors come some pretty sweet spoils, like new bike bags, shoes, and other assorted accessories. But if you're just in this game to have a little fun, fear not: The raffle hook-ups are even sweeter, with a New Belgium cruiser and all manner of bike swag. Maybe the best part is this: The afterparty begins before the race is over, so if you're into just sitting back, downing a couple, and watching the madness, you can. Some proceeds benefit MOCA, in addition to local organizations committed to improving and maintaining a mountain-bike-friendly Minnesota. Visit www.urbanassaultride.com/minneapolis for more info.
