Brent Weinbach

Comedian Brent Weinbach sounds weary. "I just got back form India," he explains. "I went for a wedding, then I traveled around the country a little bit." He didn't perform there, though he has entertained folks in Japan. "Not comedy, but modern dance—just kidding." Actually, Weinbach is an accomplished pianist, and will sometimes favor the crowd with a quirky original song should some ivories be available. But it's not They Might Be Giants or Barenaked Ladies kind of funny. "It's funny in a more R. Kelly kind of way," he says, "where the humor is more accidental." He also notes that his music is more of a serious artistic outlet as opposed to his comedy which is, as he describes it, "penises, poo, and video games." Quite a different set of subject matter compared to his previous job as a substitute teacher. Still, that job did help his stage presence. "It kind of trained me not to seem weak," he laughs. "Onstage I want to give the appearance that I'm strong, confident, and strict. I don't want any kind of monkey business." 18+. (Photo by Seth Olenick)
