Red, White, and Boom!

If you're looking to celebrate the holiday with free entertainment and fireworks in the city, this is the place to be. Red, White, and Boom! kicks off Saturday with movies and music at Water Power Park (206 Main St. SE, Minneapolis). Bring a blanket or a lawn chair early to grab a spot. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mark Mallman will rock the crowd, followed by a screening of the patriotic, alien-themed blockbuster Independence Day. On July 4, there are several spots where you can watch the fireworks. Father Hennepin Bluffs Park (420 Main St. SE, Minneapolis) is perhaps the most family-friendly of the locations, where from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. there will be children's activities hosted by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Radio Disney, and Underwater Adventures Aquarium. Over on Main Street (between St. Anthony Main and Riverplace in Minneapolis) starting around 3:30 p.m., celebrants will find live stages with acts including Orange Whip, Lynhurst, and Urban Myth. The fireworks start at 10 p.m. Visit www.mplsredwhiteboom.com for more info.
Sat., July 3, 7 p.m.; Sun., July 4, 6-10 p.m., 2010
