MCBA 25th Anniversary Celebration and Benefit Art Mart

When bookmakers take the time to carefully select and design the cover, binding, paper, type, and layout of a book, the resulting piece can be as creative and artistic as the words inside. This weekend, Minnesota Center for Book Arts will celebrate this interesting and often intense process as the organization turns 25. The event kicks off Friday with a benefit party and art mart. During the evening guests will enjoy music by the Parisota Hot Club and mingle while noshing on appetizers and cocktails. Local and national artists will also be selling their unique wares, and the guest of honor for the night is internationally recognized book artist Claire Van Vliet. On Saturday, visitors can experience book arts firsthand by participating in activities including paper-making, letterpress printing, a bookmark project, and mini-comic-book creating with members from International Cartoonist Conspiracy. There will also be demonstrations on book repair, paper marbling, and conservation from experts.
Fri., June 25, 6-9 p.m., 2010
