"We are dancing sculptures, builders, and architects," write Hijack (Kristin Van Loon and Arwen Wilder) and Scott Heron in a thoroughly unconventional press release where philosophical questions ("What is beautiful? What is usable? What is violent?") interface with Warholian paeans to popular culture ("We smash beer cans on our foreheads and bellies like frat boys"). Last year's version of "smithsoniansmith" featured these three extraordinary and unclassifiable artists dancing, vamping, creating denim found art, losing their minds, and finding new moves by stripping the dialogue from scripts by Jean Genet and Sam Shepard, then following the stage directions. We would follow these guys anywhere—to the Laundromat, through the Paris sewers—just to see what new worlds they are gestating.
