When we heard that Arise! Bookstore was closing we were very sad. However, unlike other closing businesses, the doors and windows won't be boarded up in between full-time tenants (the space is set to become home to another radical bookstore, Boneshaker Books). Instead, Storefront-in-a-Box will be renting out space to a variety of creative types on a weekly basis throughout the summer. Wednesday through Monday the space will be hosting a geek-tastic event dubbed Nerd Party. Each day freaks and geeks will be able to snack on vegan treats, check out a museum of obsolete computer storage devices, and play board games and pong. Special events include Wednesday night's spoken-word performance by Rockstar Storytellers, a Saturday afternoon Linux workshop followed by a costume contest, and a Sunday Freaks and Geeks marathon.
