Two Chairs Telling: Kevin Kling, Larry Long

Way back in 1983, members of In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater traveled south down the Mississippi River all the way to New Orleans, stopping at each town they found along the way for several days to stage massive puppet performances for the locals. It's the kind of epic undertaking that shapes an artist's work for decades to come. Two of the members of that troupe are performing tonight, together again for the first time since that trip. Each has become a treasure of our state in his own right. Larry Long is a nationally renowned singer and songwriter, known for gentle songs that he's used to reach out to troubled kids throughout the South. Kevin Kling is Minnesota's most famous storyteller, and he fully earned the distinction with a spit-polished delivery and stories that cut to the heart of the Midwestern experience. The two come together to mark the end of another season of Two Chairs Telling, and there's little doubt that tonight's show will be its zenith. (Image by Nesster)
