New Works Four Weeks Festival: Thirty Years in Thirty Minutes

Paula Mann celebrates 30 years as a provocative dance maker with a memoir-based dreamscape that integrates video and animation by Steve Paul and music by Michelle Kinney. Critic Jack Anderson described a performance of Mann's "I Love Tomorrow" (from which "Thirty Years in Thirty Minutes" is excerpted) in New York last July as a surreal trip through Mann's life in dance: "Mixed-media effects allowed Mann and Paul to blur distinctions between events actually happening on stage and projections and video images on the back wall that could have been events remembered or only imagined, especially brief, blurry, fleeting, and never quite discernible images resembling those peculiar images we may see in moments of reverie or when we're on the edge of sleep..." In addition, there will be excerpts from Mann's "Light Body," and works by Jessica Briggs and Steve Peabody. (Photo by Avye Alexandres)
