Downtown Minneapolis's Ninth Street is a stretch that, bank accounts willing, one could hang out on and never leave. It is home to both the Chambers and W Minneapolis hotels, a mess of restaurants, legendary breakfast joints, a YMCA, and wine shop (for balancing exercise with excess). It's also the site of an inaugural open house and scavenger hunt hosted by the 9th Street Experience, a coalition of businesses lining the downtown blocks. Beginning at 5 p.m., participants can head to the atrium of Campbell Mithun Tower (at Third Avenue, 612.342.2222) for an area map and a list of scavenger hunt clues. They'll have two hours to wander into participating restaurants and businesses for answers, all the while earning chances for raffle prizes like a night at the W, a meal at Hell's Kitchen, and a $500 gift card to JB Hudson Jewelers. Afterward, representatives from restaurants like Manny's Steakhouse, McCormick and Schmick's, D'Amico, and Hell's Kitchen will converge on Solera's rooftop patio (900 Hennepin Ave., 612.338.0062) to serve cocktails and complimentary snacks.
