Wits: Chickens and Other Dilemmas

The penultimate installment of the four-part radio series Wits addresses the absurd and cryptic theme "Chickens and Other Dilemmas." Your guess is as good as ours. But whatever the topic turns out to mean exactly, rest assured it will be cleverly elucidated in a discussion led by radio host and McSweeney's contributor John Moe. He'll be joined by writer Susan Orlean, whose lively, eclectic work for The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and The Village Voice has often centered on animals. Her captivating book The Orchid Thief was the basis for Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman's brilliantly bizarre film, Adaptation, in which Orlean gamely allowed a warped, fictionalized version of herself to be played by Meryl Streep. Also appearing is musical guest Haley Bonar and serious thespian turned prominent goofball John C. Reilly. Former poet laureate of the United States Billy Collins will join in on the fun via telephone, and the whole crew will benefit from the background bass notes and banter of the New Standards' John Munson.
