The University Avenue Project: Community Cabaret

When Wing Young Huie puts together a photography show the neighborhood itself becomes a living canvas. His muse for this exhibit is University Avenue, a street that runs through the University of Minnesota all the way to the state's capitol in downtown St. Paul. For the duration of the project, there will be a series of performances from local artists and musicians at the main location site. Hosted by MPR's Jade Little, tonight's debut cabaret will feature sounds from hip-hop artist Kristoff Krane, country musician Erik Brandt, spoken word and Hmong poetry from activist Tou Saiko Lee and his grandmother, and the Pachamama Band, who combine sounds from Latin America with funk, rock, and hip hop. Other artists will also perform.
Sat., May 29, 6:30 p.m., 2010
