Though many of us will spend the holiday grilling with friends and family in our backyards, this trip to the cemetery is a nice diversion before setting that charcoal on fire. The event begins with a Memorial Day service featuring gospel performances and a dove release. Lakewood Memorial Chapel turned 100 this year, and to celebrate there will be guided tours beginning every half-hour exploring the building's unique Byzantium-style architecture (the interior utilizes over 10 million tiles). Guests can take trolley tours exploring the property and the facility's history, sculptures, and gardens. Or opt for a self-guided walking tour. There will also be children's art activities, free refreshments, and $2 streetcar rides offered until the sun sets.
