While art mostly takes to the streets and studios during Art-a-Whirl, this related event will set up shop on the river instead. Located behind the Sample Room, this temporary gallery and performance space will wow visitors for three days with video projections, floating sound and art installations, and live music. Each night will feature performances at various locations by, on, or in the gallery. At 7 p.m. on Friday, bassist Zak Sally will play from the river, then rockers STNNG will jam on a multiple-boat stage, and Bella Koshka will entertain from the river's edge. Starting around the same time on Saturday the Marijuana Death Squad will give an epic performance from several spots, including the riverbank, from boats, and on shore. They will be followed by vocal powerhouse Mayda, and a late-night barge party with artists/DJs Burlesque of North America. Ben Carey (NYC612) will present sound installations, and video work will be projected onto a myriad of surfaces—including the river itself—by artists Mike Davis, Phil Harder, and Patrick Pierson.
