Conan O'Brien

In the last year Conan O'Brien has gone from second-shift talk-show host to king of the comedy world to media victim to cause célèbre when NBC axed him from the Tonight Show. The ouster conversely removed him from one of the most powerful positions on TV and raised his profile higher than ever. As part of his severance agreement, O'Brien is barred from the airwaves until the fall—hence his Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour, which rolls into Minneapolis Tuesday night. The tour will bridge the gap between his short Tonight Show stint and his forthcoming run on his new TBS late-night talk show, where he will serve as the show pony for the once-creaky cable superstation as it attempts to reinvent itself as a haven for hip comedy. (America's most beloved ginger certainly sounds like the man for the job.) At the live show, expect to hear lots of music, including tunes from the host himself, as well as catch sidekick Andy Richter and characters from Conan's coterie of curiosities, perhaps even a smack-talking dog and a woodland beast bent on self-abuse.
