If you're anything like the average hobby-hopper, chances are you have a stockpile of dusty old junk just waiting to be reworked into something divine. Enter Art + Architecture's Junkmarket Style, a four-day, idea-generating event of how-to design seminars and cooking classes ending with a fashion show on Mother's Day. This is a must-attend event if you've always wanted to know the secrets of how to make junk look cool. Vintage home and garden collections, hand-crafted jewelry, and other unique items will be on sale daily in the Art + Architecture loft from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. So grab your estate-sale cast-offs, garage-sale finds, and rusted heirlooms and repurpose them into up-cycled home and garden gems at hands-on workshops. Seminars include woodworking for "junkers" (container gardening in junk pots), and mid-century cookware classes hosted by expert teachers who provide one-on-one tips for creative repurposing ideas. A reservation-only Mother's Day brunch will take place on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at neighboring café Cupcake. At 1 p.m., head back to the loft and show mom a good time at the spring fashion show presented by Anthropologie. For extra brownie points, plan ahead and use your creativity to fashion mom a handmade gift at one of the workshops.
