Grueling labor is as American as apple pie. (What, you thought Mom made those pastries without breaking a sweat?) But is busting your hump really worth it? Radio host John Moe will examine the merits and monotonies of good old-fashioned toil in the second installment of the four-part series Wits, in which he invites an eclectic roster of guests including actors, writers, and satirists to apply their peculiar minds to a particular conundrum. This time around the featured guest is George Saunders, whose essays and short stories for the New Yorker, GQ, and Harper's vacillate between the heartbreakingly real and the mordantly absurd. Moe and Saunders will be joined via telephone by two comedy heavyweights: actress Amy Sedaris, who is best known—or should be best known—as the co-creator and star of the PSA-parody series Strangers with Candy, and lit-hipster icon Chuck Klosterman, whose most recent pop-culture criticism screed is Eating the Dinosaur. Capping it off will be tunes from former Soul Coughing frontman Mike Doughty, whose latest solo album is Sad Man, Happy Man.
