Starting Gate Productions dates its history of theater performances back to 2002, and has consistently marked its place in the local ecosystem by providing a wide variety of local talent a venue for working on a truly diverse array of plays. If this is starting to sound like a eulogy, that's because Starting Gate has announced that Our Country's Good will be its final production. Timberlake Wertenbaker's story of convicts and soldiers putting on a show in the Australian penal colony is about the ennobling and illuminating nature of theater at its best; it seems like an apt finale for a small company that has put together an impressive run clearly fueled by passion and love for theater for its own sake.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: April 23. Continues through May 16, 2010
