MN Fashion Week: Local Artist T-Shirt Mart

Few populations are more energized by T-shirt weather than Minnesotans, and the Walker Art Center's first ever Local Artist T-Shirt Mart offers a chance to bare arms and bring the work of local artists to all. Part of MN Fashion Week, the Mart gathers eight artists selling their short-sleeved wares in the Cargill Lounge. Those who don't fear farmer's tan are in capable hands here: Sellers include local design celebrities Burlesque of North America, renowned photographer Alec Soth (under the name Lester B. Morrison), and the aptly named Lovely Mpls. Not only are they locally made, some shirts are visual odes to the state: Saman Bemel-Benrud's Minnesota is formed from stylized loons, deer, and electronics, and Burlesque designers have printed the names of our crowning glories—from Fancy Ray to the Walker itself—within the state's borders. Bonus: Proceeds of all sales go to benefit the Walker's artistic and educational programs. (Pictured T-shirt is by Saman Bemel-Benrud)
