Dosh (CD-Release)

Local multi-intrumentalist/looper/percussionist/electronic music purveyor Martin Dosh doesn't fall easily into a single genre or "image," which is part of what makes his eclectic yet affecting music so appealing to internet hipsters and dusty vinyl jazz fans alike. His music is quirky, complicated, and full of musical touchstones from the simplest 808 programmed beat to the wild saxophone stylings of frequent collaborator Mike Lewis. However, unlike some Pitchfork-approved multi-stylists, there's a heartfelt, paternal sincerity to his arrangements, as if every moment of his music is painstakingly nurtured for its own good. This is more pronounced than ever with his current release, Tommy, named for Dosh's close friend and local sound engineer/musician Tom Cesario, who died unexpectedly in late 2008. For Friday's CD release, expect Dosh to roll out guest collaborators throughout the night while paying tribute to his friend with the songs he inspired. Facecandy and Ghostband open the show.
