2010 Artcrank MSP

It takes a special city for an event combining poster art and bikes to come off as cool as rock 'n' roll. Minneapolis and St. Paul are two such cities. This annual show began in Minneapolis 2007, and over the years has expanded to other bike-loving cities including Denver, St. Louis, Portland, and Des Moines. Guests are encouraged to arrive at the opening reception via two wheels, whether attached to a punked-out fixed gear, a pimped-out cruiser, or a no-nonsense hybrid. Don't worry about locking your bike to a nearby stop sign—tonight there will be a bike corral with valet parking. "Artcrank" will feature 38 local artists' and design teams' take on the bike poster, and the lineup includes Aesthetic Apparatus, DWITT, Anthem Heart, Adam Turman, Jennifer Davis, and Amy Jo. Posters are priced to sell, so you may find something special (and affordable) for your walls. For those starting in south Minneapolis, bike over to the pre-party at Kings Wine Bar (4555 Grand Ave. S., Minneapolis; 612.354.7928) where from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. guests can enjoy $3 tap beers and free appetizers. Groups will then ride en masse to the opening at Shelter Studios, where the party continues with live music and refreshments from 7 p.m. to midnight. After opening night, the show moves on to One on One Bike Studio (117 Washington Ave. N., Minneapolis; 612.371.9565) for the rest of the month.
Sat., April 10, 7 p.m.-midnight, 2010
