Two Chairs Telling

Dean Johnson has been funny for a long time. In his teens, he wrote monologues while working at a department store, and he's still at it (even though, as his PR photo caption says, he's "old now, and almost dead"). Though his material is humorous, Johnson has serious acting credentials—a master's in theater arts, extensive work in local productions, and a one-man fringe show co-starring his omnipresent ukulele. He's performing tonight with Katie Knutson, who can usually be found elbow-deep in organizing the storytelling community as president of the Northstar Storytelling League. Her coordination efforts might overshadow her performance chops if she weren't also a fine teller in her own right, using a traditional style and often traditional stories, though with her own spin that turns the tale slightly to surprise the audience. As with all Two Chairs Telling events, there's no saying for sure what'll come out of the collaboration between these two, but given the skills of both performers, no doubt it'll be more than worth the ticket price.
