Oscar Night 2010

For much of the year, America's film stars grab headlines only for legal troubles, breakups, sex and drug scandals, or weight gain. Our lens is so focused on their imperfections that in our quest to feel better about ourselves, we have robbed our pseudo-royals of their crowns and stripped them of their scepters. Hi-def and the paparazzi are our over-zealous revolutionaries, and in this war on celebrity, the biggest casualty is the only elegance our country has ever had. Are we the happier for it? Certainly not. So for just this one night—the night of the Academy Awards—let's celebrate celebrity, revel in the splendor of it, and let our kings and queens of the screen dazzle us like they used to. Better yet, take part in all the glitz and glamour yourself at Oscar Night 2010. The evening features a walk down the red carpet, cocktails, hors d'ouvres, a silent auction, the requisite award-prediction contest, and a fanciful candy buffet. Better still, all proceeds benefit the Smile Network and Reclaim. Hopefully, the evening's pageantry will last past 11 p.m., or until one of our "royals" gets caught with blow...again.
