Free First Saturdays: Lights, Camera, Action

This month's Free First Saturday will focus on cinema, though not the actors and actresses who stand in front of the camera. Instead the emphasis will be on those who labor behind it. The museum will host activities including an art project where children can make their own phenakistoscope (a spinning disk that creates the illusion of movement), storytelling, and an activity sheet exploring one of the Walker's current exhibitions, "Event Horizon." The most exciting event will be the Girls in the Director's Chair Showcase, featuring 22 films created by female filmmakers age 12 to 18. Presented as part of the Women with Vision International Film Festival, this project was entirely youth-driven, and was curated by six teen filmmakers. Screenings are at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. (OCD by Leah Gossman)
Sat., March 6, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 2010
