The Minnesota Monthly Food and Wine Experience is perhaps best described as Comicon for food and wine nerds. It's not just a chance to indulge in your favorite things with people who share your unbridled enthusiasm; it's a chance to completely immerse yourself in the foodie world, to meet people who are famous (oftentimes only to enthusiasts) for cooking and winemaking. With events sprinkled throughout town like garnish on a fine dish, the only way to truly plan your weekend is to visit foodwineshow.com, but a few highlights include: Macy's Gourmet Gathering Thursday at 5:30 p.m. ($50 in advance or $55 at the door), where diners will get to sample grub from plenty of local eateries, sip spirits, see demonstrations by Vincent Francoural of Vincent - A Restaurant, and meet Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl, who will be signing copies of Drink This: Wine Made Simple. Plus, everybody gets a wine glass. Friday night, Kitchen Window's new expanded space in Calhoun Square hosts a winemakers' five-course dinner with eight wines. The main event, held at the Minneapolis Convention Center, will feature seminars, demonstrations, vendors, and the Czar of Cakes Challenge, where bakers create insane creations in hopes of being crowned the most fabulous confectioner. Tickets for these events are selling fast. All proceeds benefit Minnesota Public Radio. For more info visit www.foodwineshow.com.
