Though this art show only happens once every 10 years, the "Foot in the Door" exhibit is immensely popular. Throughout the decades, the show has featured thousands of artists in what is the state's largest art show. The premise is humble: All who considers themselves artists are welcome to submit a piece, the only constraint being that their work must fit within a one-foot cube. In 2000 the show attracted 1,700 participants, and this decade's "Foot" is expected to draw numbers in the thousands. With great numbers comes great diversity; the event is known for its range, with each artist varying greatly in age and experience, as well as the subject matter that attracts them. New this year will be an online gallery featuring video artists, who were invited to submit works no longer than 80 seconds. The opening party Thursday, February 18 promises to be a hopping good time: From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. guests can enjoy live music from Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles and DJ Jake Rudh. Bring socks to donate to charity, and be sure to wear your wackiest footwear for the "Best Shoes in the Door" photo gallery, which the M.I.A. will be adding to its Flikr account.
