Cosmic Sledding: Warming Hearts & Hands

How "cosmic" became synonymous with "glow in the dark" is unclear, but any sources of light are welcome during dark winter evenings. Cosmic Sledding brings together black lights, disco lights, Christmas lights, glow sticks, and—bless our modern age—illuminated sleds, allowing for highly visible nighttime sledding. Hosted by the Garage, one of the state's scant all-ages venues, the event is about more than simply careening down a hill: It aims to outfit 500 students against the cold by collecting winter gear—coats, mittens, hats, and scarves—and monetary donations. Attendees can compete for prizes in categories of longest run, fastest run, and most original illuminated sled and rider, or bring their own sleds for a slightly less well-lit descent.
