When Harold Pinter's 1960s spiritual and psychic bunker-buster of a play was revived on Broadway a couple of years ago, it still packed enough destructive wallop to earn it a Tony for Best Revival. A perusal through its pages makes it easy to understand why: The story of an academic returning home to England with his wife after years spent in America, The Homecoming rips and gnashes at notions of identity, propriety, and decency while utilizing dagger-sharp dialogue to challenge, discomfit, and rattle. Since that New York revival I've put the play at the top of my wish list for a hungry local company to produce, and now Gremlin Theatre obliges. It's always daunting to guess in advance whether a show will capture lightning in a bottle, but here Gremlin chooses a script positively crackling with all sorts of queasy electricity.
