Once a year, James Sewell turns his excellent company, the James Sewell Ballet, to experimental works by company members and guest choreographers. This year's program includes a reset of Hijack's "At best, relationships are marginal: REDUX." Hijackers Kristen Van Loon and Arwen Wilder have taken the first duet they choreographed themselves and given it over to Penelope Freeh and Sally Rousse (possibly the Thelma and Louise of ballet). Then they coached seven Sewell dancers to use Hijack's process-intensive techniques to come up with a new work. Sewell created a series of trios for company and non-company members of various dance backgrounds, then asked Shannon Christie, JSB's resident movement therapist, to add her own method of "healing motion." Company member Nicolas Lincoln goes for "highly physical and androgynous" in his "Unraveling What Binds" to the exuberant rhythms of composer Mary Ellen Childs. Thanks to support from the visionary Jerome Foundation, this program promises the kind of mix in which everyone flies by the seat of his or her pants and takes the audience along for the ride.
