This will be the third year for the Midwest Burlesk Festival, a weekend celebration showcasing the best burlesque in the region. And while true enthusiasts may cite countries such as France and Germany as hotbeds for this type of performance art, our little corner of the world isn't doing too shabby, either. The three-day festival kicks off with an opening-night gala for $15 at 8 p.m. this Thursday at the Varsity Theater (1308 Fourth St. SE, Minneapolis; 612.604.0222). At the party, guests and performers will mingle between shows occurring on the hour. Tigger (Mr. Exotic World 2006), Lola Van Ella (from St. Louis), and local favorite Foxy Tann will play emcees while DJ Ajent Orange spins between sets. On Friday and Saturday the festival moves to the Ritz Theater, where approximately 75 local and national performers will put on four shows, each loaded with comedy, drag, boylesque, burlesque, and live music. There will be numbers from Lili's Burlesque, along with special performances from other talented folks of note, including Michelle L'Amour, Miss Exotic World 2005. Tickets for Friday and Saturday are $25, with performances each night at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
