Rock the Cradle

Minnesota's popular music station 89.3 the Current will cater to a younger listener at its annual family-friendly event. In existence since the station's inception in the mid-aughts, this all-day, all-ages celebration of art has proven to be quite a draw, attracting nearly 13,000 people last year. A multifaceted experience, Rock the Cradle has a long list of events, including those in theater, music, visual arts, and literature. With DJs Mary Lucia, Mark Wheat, Steve Seel, Bill Riley, Barb Abney, and Bill DeVille at the helm, there will be no shortage of local star power or arts and culture. On the slate this year are live performances by Jeremy Messersmith, Adam Levy, and Haley Bonar, as well as a Kids' Disco thumping to the beats of Koo Koo Kanga Roo. There will be story time with Current DJs, puppetry theater performances, and, for a more Zen-like experience, family yoga. With all these events, Rock the Cradle will be held at both the Children's Theatre Company and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts campus. Directed toward families with children ages two to eight, Rock the Cradle will engage both kids and adults in the Twin Cities' thriving arts and culture scene. (Photo by sanbeiji)
