The rampant athleticism and formal rigor of hip hop goes all weird sci-fi—not to mention just plain scientific—when the irrepressible Battlecats populate their b-boy world with stem cells and aliens who command the dancers to "communicate or die!" In "The Way," the considerable talents and smarts of J-Sun Noer and fellow b-boys explode in experiments with video and new choreographic techniques. But there will be plenty of hip-hop wit, wisdom, and crazy leg maneuvers to liven up this cult-shock event. Next, Kenna Sarge brings West African dance into the mix, as well as something she calls Afro-modern storytelling. Prepare to be propelled from West African roots through a troubled history to a dynamic apotheosis featuring vigorous dancing and drumming with the Voice of Culture Drum and Dance crew and special guests DJ Mal, Angel Adams, and Leah Nelson.
