Jawaahir Dance Company's 17th Annual Henna Party

For 17 years and counting, this annual party has brought the Middle East to the Midwest. Jawaahir Dance Company has been showcasing Middle Eastern artistry through dance since 1989, and this event is a yearly staple in their busy schedule of events. For rug-cutters without borders, instructors will lead a short session on Arabian dance moves before open dancing. Living up to its namesake, the event will also feature the art of mehndi, or henna painting. The centuries-old Middle Eastern practice highlights a host of imaginative and culturally significant body art. New to the program this year is a raffle that includes a chance to have Angela Skrade of Ancient Traditions Mehndi create her distinctive designs on a winner. The well-known local henna artist's elegance and fine attention to detail are noteworthy. Food and beverages hailing from the region will top off the all-encompassing cross-cultural experience held at the Uptown studio. Through music, dance, art, and cuisine, Jawaahir offers this unique celebration that promotes tolerance and understanding among cultures, and a good time.
