When the history of the local scene is being pieced together by future archaeologists, the end of the new millennium's first decade will likely be marked by the rise of the DJ night. After decades of serving as a bicoastal fixture and a time-honored way for bars to squeeze a few drops of stage time from a lazy month, the DJ night has at last become a populist Twin Cities phenomenon. Pick a day and throw a rock—you'll bonk someone toting a vinyl crate into a bar. But in this teeming biodome, Sussed! has emerged as one of our most well-appointed midweek DJ nights. After a long Tuesday residency at the Bryant-Lake Bowl, DJs Dig Dug, Marc the Guv, and Christian Fritz dragged their vinyl libraries a block and a half to Sauce Soundbar. Must have been heavy lifting—mashing Korean funk into acoustic world beat, Sussed! is a crate-digger's dream, and it's all mixed as smoothly as 007's martinis. 21+.
