In one day the Target Center will host two teams that have a nasty habit of losing lots of games: the Washington Generals, also known as the Harlem Globetrotters' doormat, and the Timberwolves, the NBA's Western Conference punching bag. To be fair, the Generals have the edge on losing; the Timberwolves aren't even the worst team in the NBA. They're close, but they're not the worst. It's been the kind of season for which stadium ushers guide upper deck spectators down to the lower bowl so the team can save face on television. It's also been the kind of season where it appears as though the team has most of the parts it needs to be successful—a new coach, new GM, good young players, an all-star team leader—but they are lacking the instructions to put the pieces together into a winning machine. That being said, they aren't getting destroyed night after night. And that's the key to why the Wolves are fun to watch. They hang around, keep the games competitive, and occasionally squeak out a victory. Watching the Wolves take on the mediocre Washington Wizards Saturday night may be the perfect foil to an afternoon spent marveling at the Globetrotters performing their hardwood circus. Tickets for the Harlem Globtrotters are $24, with games at noon Saturday, and also 2 p.m. Sunday. The Timberwolves play Washington at 7 p.m. Saturday with tickets ranging from $10 to $1,700.
