More About

Some comedians try their first open mic out of a long-burning desire to do standup. Others go at the behest of friends or coworkers. Mike Brody went out of spite. "I was a bartender, and one of the cooks had decided to do an open mic at the pizza shop," Brody recalls. "I never heard him say anything funny or even try to be funny. I think I fancied myself being a funny guy and I was like, 'I can do that.'" After prepping for a month, Brody took the stage and has never looked back. Today he not only does standup in clubs and on college campuses, but for the television program Ghost Hunters. Really. "Whenever they have a hotel on the show where they get activity, they have an event there. They have lectures and stuff, and I'll go up and do 45 minutes on ghosts, Big Foot, UFOs, and stuff like that." In clubs, though, he sticks to everyday-living subjects. "I'm kind of a nerd. I like to talk about nerdy topics. When I do the Ghost Hunter events that's all I talk about, but when I do my regular set I don't like to talk about one subject for an extended period of time. You gotta change it up." 18+; 21+ plus later shows.
Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, 10:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 23. Continues through Dec. 27, 2009
