The $4.99 Show

Comedy and rock 'n' roll collide—or at least bump up against one another on the same bill—at the semi-regular $4.99 Show at the Triple Rock, a new venture from Stand Up! Records impresario Dan Schlissel. Stand Up! produces comedy albums by prominent national acts such as Marc Maron and Doug Stanhope, including homegrown talent like Chad Daniels and Dwight York. The live shows will present top local comics, followed by a band—in this case the always rowdy Chooglin', whose rootsy-by-way-of-Creedence guitars are backed by a raucous horn section. The comedians on tonight's program include John Conroy, the reigning champion of Acme's Funniest Person in the Twin Cities contest; past Funniest Person winner Brooks Robinson, whose act is a sharp blend of intense sarcasm, wry observations, and sardonic anti-comedy; and Minneapolis Comedy Death Squad member Chris Maddock, who pulls double duty as the bass player for the show's house band, Maddoo and the $4.99 Crew. Gus Lynch, producer of the similarly themed music-and-comedy mash-up Laugh Rock Repeat, hosts. 21+.
