Vader

If your name has the word "Vader" in it, odds are you are in the business of ruining somebody's shit. There's Darth, obviously, all running around choking lackeys with his Force powers, as well as pro wrestler Big Van Vader, who has destroyed the hell out of many an opponent with his ruinous powerbomb. And then there's Vader, the Polish death metal icons: after forming in the early '80s and releasing their underground hit demo tape Morbid Reich in 1990, the band Josh Homme once fatefully called "the Eagles of death metal" has toured relentlessly, breaking through the decaying Iron Curtain to share bills with the likes of Slayer and Testament before becoming festival circuit mainstays. They've been around long enough to weather the decline and repopularization of death metal, and despite guitarist/frontman Piotr Wiwczarek being the last remaining link to the band that moved five figures under Wojciech Jaruzelski's nose, the current lineup -- featuring, among others, Decapitated's Wacław "Vogg" Kieltyka -- is filled with longtime disciples of Vader's sound. Their most recent album, Necropolis, continues Vader's 25-plus-year tradition of brutal, charging blast-beat force.
