Halloween was last week, but fans of horror and special-effects makeup are still going strong. This weekend separates the true fanatics from the fakes with Crypticon, a three-day festival celebrating all things within the world of blood, gore, and monsters. Events kick off Friday night with an indie film fest and a heavy metal concert featuring bands with names like Impaler, Ripsnorter, and Fetus Heist. Saturday and Sunday are when things really get going with panel talks, a celebrity dinner, costume contest, vaudeville burlesque show, and more live music. Sign up early for the two-day corpse head workshop, or take in one of the panel talks featuring stars like Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), Bill Moseley (Repo! The Genetic Opera, Army of Darkness), and Margot Kidder (Superman, The Amityville Horror, and the new Halloween II), to name only a few participants. Also, people buy discounted Christmas cards the day after the holiday. By this logic, it's not too early to check out the sales floor for goods to use in creating next year's Halloween costume.
