Dave Brubeck

The accolades keep piling up for jazz piano icon Dave Brubeck, even as he shows no signs of slowing down. Declared a "living legend" by the Library of Congress not long ago, he's now due to receive Kennedy Center Honors in the presence of President and Mrs. Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on his 89th birthday in December. It's also the 50th anniversary of the 1959 release of his groundbreaking Time Out album, which was suitably noted with a sumptuous deluxe edition on Sony Legacy, including remastered original tracks, a second CD with previously unreleased live quartet performances at Newport in the early '60s, and a DVD with vintage performance footage and a Brubeck interview. "Take Five" was a rare and miraculous artistic and commercial hit, even though Brubeck was experimenting with quirky time signatures, polytonality, and unusual harmonies, hallmarks that still characterize his work decades later, along with jazz-classical fusions. All that will be evident as Brubeck leads his longtime quartet into the Dakota: Bobby Militello on alto sax and flute, drummer Randy Jones, and bassist Michael Moore. $50-$130. 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
